For those who don't play paradox games or Hearts of Iron 4, I did a difficult achievement, which is starting as communist china and proclaiming the People's republic of china. You have to fight an uphill battle starting from a single province. I managed to consolidate, drive out the japanese, and turn on the Kuomintang in a few years. This last year has been researching and preparing a naval invasion to fully defeat Japan. Of course, I had to keep Mao as the head, otherwise how could I really claim to have created the PRC?
Eventually it clicks. It def took me a while but it’s really a curve, once a few things fall into place all the systems fall into place too. It does take a little while for sure though, but then it’s fun cause you can do shit like this. I plan on destroying America in this run.
Are there any good guides? I'm fucking terrible at most RTS games. I need my turns. But this seems really cool and I wanna play it. FTL may actually be my all time favorite and I feel like a complex RTS could appeal but I've never clicked with one.
This excellent video did it for me.
Let me ping my friend and get back to you. When we first started playing he watched a 4 hour guide, which is excessive, but he went into the game knowing everything. He ended up teaching me. So I’ll find that and link you, just reply to this to remind me.
Hell yeah, HOI4 + Stellaris is a great combo. You can start with HOI then take your communist revolution to spaaaaccceee!
There are a lot of expansions there for HOI4. Do you need them all? Can it be pirated, or are there regular updates?
Get the ones that apply to the countries you like. I bought “Waking the tiger” for a few bucks for this run, took me a couple tries and maybe 10 odd hours in total, worth the cost. There’s expansions for the Spanish civil war, yugoslavia, etc which are all fun communist play throughs.

I don't have them all, just check the reviews for them. I'd just get the main game first though, you'll know when you need the DLC because you'll have 200+ hours in the game and be thinking "I could use that dlc". Also check G2A, they're cheap as hell on there usually. Stellaris is usually available for $10 there.
Piracy is better than g2a. They're a money laundering scheme and all keys bought there will cause the real devs to be hit with chargebacks cause they used stolen credit cards.
Just pirate it jfc
Yeah, but you don't get updates with the pirated version. The only reason I recommend G2A for Paradox is that they are constantly putting their games on sale so there are actually a few resellers that just stockpile keys when the game is $10 then sell them back for a buck or two profit. Also Paradox overcharges for their games and you can always buy DLC legit if you want to support them.
Do you have any understanding of naval gameplay? It used to be you would only spam battleships, but now after MTG I have no fucking clue how naval gameplay works. Best I can figure out is using subs.
I don't have the MTG dlc, and yeah I have no clue how it works. That's my least known area of expertise unfortunately.
Its not the best but its supposed to work in that battleships kill cruisers who kill destroyers who kill subs who kill battleships IIRC. If you are a small country just build subs. If you are a large country its good to build some heavy cruisers and destroyers also. Battleships take too long to build to be of much use imo.
