They just exist as tulpas of the romanticized past - Republicans of America's unquestionable global hegemony and Democrats of our briefly socialized and planned economy - held up as fetish-wards against the reality of a chronically dysfunctional and incongruent modern government.
How exactly is Biden supposed to appeal to voters, anyway? He's a creature of the insurance industry and of Wall Street, jumped all the way up into the highest echelons of power in a time when these industries don't need anyone to protect them. He has actively worked to alienate anybody who gives a shit about: unions, the environment, Trans rights, abortion, or not doing genocide.
Which leaves him with a voting block of chuds who think he's the communist antichrist.
Why would it be ironic? Not trying to get votes leads to not getting them generally. Seems like the expected outcome.
I'd say the problem lies more with people propping up Biden to be president for at least a day than he should rather than Biden himself though.
