    Ironic in a way that productive forces are so developed in China that the communists have become free marketeers while the capitalists are back to doing hardcore 18th century protectionist mercantilism.

      China really learned from the mistakes of the Soviet Union. They let the capitalists in and the capitalists gleefully destroyed their own productive capacity for a quick profit. This is what long term planning uninterrupted by the endless moving of deck chairs on the Titanic (American elections) gets you.

        Agreed but to be fair, I think the Soviets would have done this if they could have, but they were facing an imminent invasion from the Nazis and had to batten down the hatches. China’s borders seem more secure to me compared with the USSR, which had lengthy borders with imperialist countries.
