After taking this photo they started bucking up like a horse, probably trying to scare me. I saw a bunch of them on a walk I took yesterday they were kinda all over. Was pretty big like the size of my thumb

Oh yes, this does appear to be what it is. Real neato! I thought it might be a stag beetle!
