The way I've seen seemingly normal people talk about wanting to run over protestors blocking traffic makes me sick. How do a lot of people think this way?

It's disturbing, but a lot of regular people seem very ready and willing to engage in absolutely depraved acts of violence if it weren't for social norms against it. The person who will, unprompted, start talking about how they would run over protestors, is probably the same person who would get their machete out of their shed and walk over to their neighbor's house and redacted because a radio DJ said they were cockroaches who need to be exterminated.

They're not going to machete people to death because that's too much work. They'll kill people in the laziest most convenient way possible though: cars, calling the cops, COVID, buying shit they don't need at the store, etc.

"damn, you killed a guy? How'd you do it?"

"Well, I was sitting in a big comfy seat and I flexed my ankle a little bit to push the accelerator. I am very badass"

It's just all the violence that capitalism inflicts on you every second of your life that first completely desensitizes people and then when they are given absolutely zero ways to talk about that violence or even perceive it they go crazy. There's really just the slightest difference between the violence that is everyday "driving a car" compared to "driving over a protester"

I regularly feel this way towards the fucking pricks who drive 13 miles under the speed limit during the 10 miles I'm on a no passing 1 lane road two times every day every day every day every day

Cars are so good and make people empathetic and communal!
