    I think it would probably be cool to be one of those people who cares so little about the internal consistency of my beliefs to be able to say "aid to the poor hurts more than it helps" and then immediately afterwards say social security should not be touched.

      Sure, but they probably believe Social Security shouldn't go to the poor either because they likely get more out of it then they put in. In that way, they are internally consistent. I doubt anyone would ask that question from Pew research though.
