The "Arab Muslims still have an ongoing slave trade" is a common retort from crackers trying to deflect blame for slavery.

Yeah I know, it's extremely absurd.

But if we are going to play that game, then western nations are built off the backs of slaves both domestic and foreign (their clothing, foods, electronics, etc are all made with slave labor).

There's an ongoing problem in Dubai of people being forced to work in shitty conditions after getting their passports taken away by employers. AFAIK there's been reports of human trafficking done this way in Dubai. There was that story a few years ago of a house keeper who jumped off a balcony to escape her captors, an abusive married couple who would beat her.

It is nowhere near the chattel slavery practiced in the US. It also isn't legal, even though it's an open secret ignored by authorities. Like black slaves in the US were legally not allowed to be taught literacy. Children were taken away from their parents and sold off to far away places.

America's prison system and treatment of migrant workers is probably worse.

...if you stretch that to Arabic-speaking Muslims, which is a distinction that a reddit-logo-brains wouldn't have made in the first place
