I really enjoyed kinzie's character being a little too intense even by 3rd street saints standard. Sriii is one of my favorites because they looked at the self-serious "don't you feel bad for enjoying this" misery of contemporary gta games and were like "fuck it. Dubstep gun. The badguy is a luchador. Sasha grey voices one of the deuteragonists. The first mission is jumping out of a plane with no parachute and we're gonna escalate from there".

It was just so much fun.

I hated the GTA series, especially because the people around me really into it were the kind that could run people over for hours and still have the same empty chuckle about it. You know, "Postal" enjoyers. kombucha-disgust

I forgot how I stumbled into Saints Row III but it was actually a good time and I loved the absurdity. only-good-gamer

Legit never played a GTA game. The closest I ever played was Bully which does have a good amount of GTA elements since it’s made by the same studio and it gives me mixed feelings. As a story, it had some surprisingly good social commentary. But a lot of it goes down the drain with some really sus moments I really don’t want to mention.

I’m guessing GTA is the same way, with a good underlying message and story that’s overshadowed by a lot of suckiness. Something something satire requires clarity…

I think GTA IV and the DLCs do have really good story with really cool characters that you will like. Besides the lack of airplanes, I think GTA IV is probably the best GTA game. Now the other GTAs storylines are really weird and rushed. GTA III is a simple revenge story. GTA VC and SA start serious about gangs and stuff, and by the end you are stealing jetpacks and having casinos. It really makes zero sense and seems like the ending was rushed, full of unused content. GTA V also has the same feeling as SA, but the map is really lackluster, just a big city, like three small cities and a lot of mountains for no reason, an entire city could be there, but no. Rockstar decided to just create a bunch of mountains. And the three protagonists thing gets old really quick.

I much prefered to just go around driving every possible vehicles in GTA. The older ones had really bad combat, specially the gun combat that was horrible on the PC ports due to bad resolution. I really did enjoy exploring San Andreas' map.

People liked SAII for the "gritty" story but honestly I remember III the most for just going off the rails in a way that was unique from GTA.

The first two saints row fans fucking hate Saints Row 3 and 4 lol. Mostly because they didn't finish the main cliffhanger of the series.

      spoiler

One of your friends from Saints Row 1, was a dude called Dex. In Saints Row 2 we learn he sold out the entire gang together with Julius and the undercover police guy. And Dex became a high-ranking member of Ultor (which is the same company that exists in Red Faction). But for whatever reason, they didn't explain what happened to Dex, except that he went to hell.
