My circle of friends, we would watch The Daily Show during the Bush years as a group hangout and I'm one of two out of the group that has turned more left. The rest are just typical Democrats.
I think that most of my friends, when given this news just do the simple behavior when experiencing cognitive dissonance, and just ignore it.

They have really no set values or morals, they opposed him because he was the non-Dem incumbent. I doubt they would be that shocked even in 2007.
