I'd ask if this is intended to be as intimidating as it appears to be but obviously the answer is yes. Isn't this literally what they mock the cultural revolution in China of doing? Of turning people into willing spies or enforcers for the 'movement/ideology'?

I've definitely been in 100 arguments with yanks about how draconian australian laws requiring you to vote are, now look at them, haha!

you can ruin your ballot and get your name checked off, there's no one forcing you to actually cast your vote, blahblah democracy

There's something about anticommunist pearl clutchers. Like they don't actually disagree with the things they accuse Stalin, Mao etc of doing, they think that's shit's extremely cool and wish that they could do it themselves to their own political enemies. The pearl clutching is therefore entirely performative, "oh the Commies banned books they don't like unlike us the free speech warriors"/"we should ban every book that depicts a non cishet person."

Some chuds are honest enough about admitting they believe that all "sides" are just as selfish and ruthless and want to fuck over everyone else. Their belief is clownishly wrong, but it's how they feel.
