Mattress on the floor is just living that Japanese futon life. I did it for 8 years until my futon was about 1 inch thick where the imprint of my body was and finally upgraded to a platform bed with tatami and a nice firm latex/wool futon.

Now I'm pissed whenever I'm in a hotel because all the beds are mushy shit. I need it to feel like a board with a blanket on top, dammit! meow-knife-trans

Summoning the ghost of zara to get you. Jk.

A mattress on the floor is not the same as a Japanese futon, which is cool and fine. The futon can be cleaned and gets packed up regularly.

The mattress on the floor gathers dust, gets moldy and is bad for your back.
