What do y'all think is the reasoning behind Beautiful Things?

I feel like it's playing into the absurdity and controversy to normalise it so that it can't be weaponized at any point, but it's wild to me that the administration is doing it via a whole book about his addictions.

Especially insane after they just had staffers demoted or asked them to resign if they smoked weed...

Agreed. People should be able to be open about struggles with addiction, general life issues, etc. without being judged, but I feel like his relatable issues have overshadowed his massive political (@Ukraine) and generally douchey (gun, affair with brother's widow) actions which did not come with a modicum of accountability or legitimate review. I don't think those things should end a person's career or make them a 'bad' person by any means, but reactions to his bullshit seem off in respect to general conduct of American media/society.
