I have a pretty basic gist of it, and am pretty familiar with The Troubles, but was thinking there is a bit more to this event right now than it might appear? thx

This article is what I could find from a cursory glance:

Loyalists are angry at Northern Ireland's new trading arrangements, which were implemented because of Brexit, under a mechanism known as the protocol. In addition to concerns over the Northern Ireland protocol, some loyalists have accused the PSNI of "two-tier policing". They argue the PSNI is treating the nationalist community differently from the loyalist community. These fears were exacerbated last week when the PSNI decided not to prosecute Sinn Fein politicians for attending the funeral of Bobby Storey, a senior Republican figure who is said to have been the head of the IRA's intelligence unit in the 1990s. Mr Beattie added: "Where we have criminal drug gangs organising rioting in other parts of the country - it is utterly disgraceful. I have long had an issue with these people [South East Antrim UDA] and they have to be called out time and time again."

it's possible that the ulsterites are having a pied noir level bitch fit in an attempt to trigger the republicans, remember that these are mostly youth gangs that ceremonialy burn irish flags every year. The Troubles are inevitable and a distraction.

This is horseshit. The PSNI is like 80% protestant. This is the northern irish equivalent of "white men are the most oppressed class!"
