It's synonymous with boomers now. Anything from Gen X and Boomer eras just gets coopted as "of their generation" in order to be attractive to them. They slop it up with absolutely no care or thought about the original beliefs of anyone at the time.
I remember when boomers hated all Gen X stuff. While the members of Maiden themselves are younger boomers, the fans are mostly Gen X and under. Boomers in Maiden's prime were more into AOR and soft rock, and of course, that was the era where they invented the "Classic Rock" radio format to make it even easier for them to ignore that damn MTV Generation's satanic headbanger blasphemy.
