You’re right about that, but I think implying they are Americans only lessens the impact of the statement. Better to say it’s the American ideals. People from London are not American but a significant portion of them are indeed poisoned by ideals of the country, which is the problem.
On that note, I’d normally call similar things a western belief but in this instance it’s such a predominately American vs overall western idea right now that genocide is fine that it’s hard to call it anything but.
I thought the islamophobia was invented by Europeans, it's kind of a tradition from the middle ages or so. Being genocidal against the target is just the next step
