lol and people here still try to justify using apple products. ditch that overpriced lib shit.
No but certain phones do not work with it. I would however ask you to at least try NewPipe, it is FOSS, privacy conscious, allows you to download videos and their subtitles and it works for YouTube, SoundCloud and even Bandcamp.
You should ask on !libre@hexbear.net, I can't use Spotify so I make do with YouTube and SoundCloud. But I am sure that exists.
NewPipe which is open source and has a lot of features. Check this post out.
You can block YouTube ads on an iOS device by installing a content blocker app and just using Safari instead of the YouTube app. It's not ideal but it works ok.
To be fair you should probably be running adblockers/content blockers on Safari all the time anyway if you are using any iOS devices. The only extra step for YouTube is to also delete the YouTube app so that it won't always try to hijack every YouTube link you tap on.
What’s wrong with Chromium? I’m not being dense I’m just out of the loop
It is controlled by Google and using a Chromium based browser feeds Chrome's and Google's monopoly. This is one of the reasons and I don't mind elaborating or mentioning others if you aren't convinced enough to use Firefox.
It's the only way :) There is also Tor browser which is great for privacy but a bit slow (cuz it routes everything through 3 servers)
No no it's developed by Mozilla which is a non profit but they make deals with search engines to make them the default and Google makes the biggest deal with them. You can easily change the search engine to something like DuckDuckGo which I di.
AltStore is an app that can side load itself onto your phone, that then lets you easily sideload other apps (a major limitation though: you can only have up to 3 apps, including AltStore, unless you pay Apple $100/year for a dev account).
YouTube++ is a modified version of the official iOS YouTube app that does just about everything you'd expect a modified YouTube app to do.
I wonder if PiHole blocks YouTube ads. Obviously wouldn't work on the go, but it could work at home maybe.
