Luís Almeida Cabral was born in Bissau, capital of the colony of Portuguese Guinea, a child of mestiço (mixed-race) parents originally from the Cape Verde islands. He was brought into political activity by his brother, and was one of the founders of the clandestine PAIGC in 1956 and a member of the party's politburo and central committee. When the Portuguese secret police began investigating the party, he moved to the city of Conakry, across the border in Guinea, but by 1961 he was back in Bissau organising the National Union of Guinean Workers (UNTG), of which he became secretary general.

The start of the liberation war later that year saw him take to the bush, and by 1963 he was put in charge of the Quitafine frontier zone. In 1964 he joined the party's war council and, in 1970, became a member of the executive committee for the war, with responsibility for reconstruction in liberated zones, which by then were substantial. He was also in charge of the party's bureau in Dakar, important for external relations, as the support of a moderate country like Senegal was a useful counter to the leftist party's solid network among radical African countries.

PAIGC was one of the primary agitators for freedom against Portuguese colonial rule, and fought the Guinea-Bissau War of Independence against Portugal, winning the country's independence in 1974. Luís Cabral became the leader of the party in 1973 after Amílcar was assassinated that year.

Carbal served as president of Buinea-Bissau from 1974 to 1980, when a military coup d'état led by João Bernardo Vieira deposed him. After losing power, Carbal was exiled to Portugal, where he died in 2009.

No bother at all! @kitten can probably help more because she has an iphone which she will replace with an android as soon as possible, right Kitten? :)

If we are talking about Youtube specifically then they can use invidio.us which is an open source front end of youtube you can access via Firefox. It's privacy friendly, got no ads and lets you download audio/video.

I hear there are generic adblockers which aren't bad but I'm gonna leave that for Kitten who probably knows more about this.

Honestly iphones suck and they are very restrictive. I recommend replacing it with an android phone or more specifically a Pixel one if you can afford it and then flash CalyxOS on it to completely degoogle it. Sorry if this isn't in anyway helpful to you @Grownbravy

You should've replied to @Grownbravy who I keep pinging lol

To add to the list: Tutanota and Protonmail for email

          OsmAnd for maps

          Beam - redd*t client

Simplenote or Joplin for note taking

          MuPDF - pdf reader

          NetNewsWire - rss reader

Onion Browser which is recommended by the Tor project iirc

Okay so I'm looking into this and Firefox Focus is a Firefox browser that blocks ads.

I see people recommending Lockdown which acts as a firewall to block ads system wide and it's open source. There is also Adguard.

Hopefully this is a more helpful comment @Grownbravy :)

On the off chance that a family member needs to upgrade their iphone you can give them yours and buy yourself a Pixel or a good Chinese phone (they aren't supported by CalyxOS though except for one Xiaomi phone) or you can get a secondhand Pixel.

Anyway, it isn't a lost cause just because you got an iphone and you should actually use your PC more anyway.

Maybe I should make a post about CalyxOS 🤔

yea, thats a good point, I mean I don't really use my iphone all that much. I used duckduckgo browser for hexbear and I text people, that's about it. I'm not on any social media apart from IG for work and I really don't even use that. I just really like the process of securing devices and trying out different OS's and stuff

Well, if you were using Android I could've recommended Barinsta for example. That's why I say iOS is very restrictive and all that. Btw I don't recommend using DDG's browser because it's a Chromium-based browser. CalyxOS is actually very secure while being user friendly

yeah I think there was some talk about DDG not being optimum on here recently but being on iOS definitely limits me. I used to use Firefox Focus as well. When this phone starts to wear down I'll probably jump ship but I can't justify eating the 700 dollars rn :/

DDG is a good search engine and it's what I recommend just not the browser or extension. Yeah I completely understand. A couple of comments in this thread got some recommendations for iOS
