I've been using a 10 year old Turtle Beach gaming headset to listen to music because I prefer over-the-ear headphones over earbuds since they usually hurt my ears and it's all I got.

    The most important questions are:

    • Closed or open?

    • Type of music if you have a preference

    • Budget, by which I mean how much do you care about money vs. fancy? Headphones can get stupid expensive and I personally would never drop $500 on a pair, but some people spend $2k.

Assuming you're cool with open headphones, I recommend the Grado SR-60s. They're sub-$100, are easy to repair, and they sound great. Even better if you can find a sale.

If you want headphones that go all the way around your ears, the one to beat is the Sennheiser HD-600s. They're very expensive, though. You can sometimes find refurbished HD-580s for around $100 tho and they're essentially the same thing.
