On this day in 1961, the Bay of Pigs invasion took place wheen a force of 1400 Cuban exiles, funded and led by the U.S., landed on the southwestern coast of Cuba in a failed attempt at overthrowing the communist Cuban government.

Covertly financed and directed by the U.S. state, the operation took place at the height of the Cold War and its failure led to major shifts in international relations between Cuba, the United States, and the Soviet Union.

The coup attempt came in response to Castro expropriating property from American capitalists; U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower allocated $13.1 million to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in March 1960 for use against Castro. With the aid of Cuban counter-revolutionaries, the CIA proceeded to organize an invasion.

On the night of April 17th, an invasion force of approximately 1400 Cuban exiles (gusanos) and CIA officers landed on the beach at Playa Girón in the Bay of Pigs. After a few days, the insurgents became overwhelmed by the Cuban army when Kennedy refused to provide air support for the operation.

The invasion's defeat solidified Castro's role as a national hero and strengthened Cuba-Soviet relations. Several Cuban exiles and two Americans were executed upon capture. Over 1,000 prisoners were exchanged for humanitarian aid from the U.S. government.

I just heard an interview on the radio with a faildaughter who had a job as a "full-time investor" in her daddy's business. It was hilarious.

Her daddy got rich investing her mum's money. The faildaughter was oblivious to how wealthy har family was until she was old enough to go to college and her daddy bought her a apartment. She played around a bit, got a degree in business and a degree in litterature. Then she needed a real job and got one in daddy's company. The interview had some amazing dialogue:

The interview was part of a series of interviews with members of the elite.

Power and elite have such negative connotations. I don't feel comfortable with the label "elite" as it was never one I chose for myself.

On how she picks businesses to invest in:

I'm not that good at reading financial statements yet [she went to business school btw]. I look more at the people and go with my gut feeling.

On how good she thinks she is at being a full-time investor:

I don't know how good I am at it. At least investing the money at all is better than just letting them sit in a bank account.

She's into green, ethical feel-good investment thing and likes to tell herself how she's saving the world. Part of the interview went like this:

Journalist: "There is a lot of bullshit in that field. Do you have any tips on how to spot greenwashing?"

Faildaughter: "Uhh... Umm... Ehh... No... Just use common sense"

On how to get into investing

Faildaughter: "The most importabt thing is just to get started. Just buy your first share!"

Journalist: "Do you have any tips on how to pick up first share?"

Faildaughter: "Umm... There already was an existing portfolio when I started..."

On how she likes to "strike a blow for feminism":

Sometimes I will dress ultra-feminine for a board meeting to shiw that you can be a woman and still be intelligent

The elite is completely full of shit. Anyone could do her job.

Absolutely. None at all, she has been completely shielded from reality by her family money. People like her are running the economy, it's completely bonkers.

Another thing these failchildren purchase is an entire network of yes-people to blow smoke up their asses. From your description, that 'journalist' went super easy on her. Seems like the whole point of the interview was to flatter her ego.

The format of the programme was in no way meant to be confrontational but you could feel the frustration of the journalist who had expected to interview a very serious businessperson but only got these half-assed bullshit answers.

to show that you can be a woman and still be intelligent

This is true but she's not necessarily demonstrating it lol

      just go with gut feeling

The market is very rational and that's why people who gets investment are the most qualified and not just proffesional smoke sellers
