Apparently she has a pretty hardcore fanbase, but who is it that's a fan of her? Why did she get so popular so fast? I don't exactly hate the songs I've heard, but I also am not seeing what resonates with (some) people so much

She has family who works in the music industry apparently / maybe family with connections, im too lazy to check, but also her music is moody and pretty and unoffensive. weirdly my boyfriends retired older white suburban mom really likes her. despite her moody trendy fashion and seemingly menacing beats / song lyrics shes like taylor swift but less highstrung // or like a gen z lorde but also she sounds like lana del rey. shes kinda doing the basic white girl music thing but seems to be more in the mainstream
personally billie fits my tastes more than lorde/lana/swift because she seems to use more hip hop beats/ EDM (in a genuine way, not in a i knew you were trouble way) and i like that she collabs/ is kind of a two piece act with her brother, a dj. i think all of this just makes her stuff more exciting. but her non #1 singles generally sound like they could be in lana's norman fucking rockwell
she definitely also benefited from the youtube algorithm (im sure everyone has had one of those vanity fair interviews where billie is interviewed over a 3 year time span, marking her fame rise and transition into adulthood, on the timeline at some point) and im sure other social media algorithms as well, im just only really familiar with youtube
i do wish billie would speak up more though when singing. its hard to hear sometimes but it seems like shes doing it as aesthetic so
but basically, old people can grasp billie via her sad mellow style and young people can grasp her too, so it makes sense shes won grammys and also gets #1s
it's this.. mostly. Don't get me wrong she and her brother are talented, but it definitely helps and you don't go from complete obscurity to having millions of subs and monthly listeners without a little help behind the scenes. Just like taylor swift, while i find her obnoxious personally, she's a talented writer but would she be as big as she is if daddy hadn't have literally bought her initial label and made them focus on her? Maybe, maybe not? the music industry sucks big shit and there are thousands and thousands of artists that are just as good as what we hear that will never "make it."
youre totally right!
Pretty much. Without having some kind of connections, there's little chance she'd have broken into the mainstream. That being said, it still says something about her that she's been able to build and maintain such a high level of popularity. There have been plenty of acts the industry has tried to shove down our throats that went nowhere.
Lorde is gen z lol
I was told it ended at 97? regardless, shes older and was here before billie
