For this all-Astro-Boy edition Saturday Anime Night, first up (by request) is Astro Boy (2009), the American CGI adaptation of Osamu Tezuka's iconic manga. It's supposed to be okay, and this is the perfect time to watch it, so that's what we are going to do. After that, we will watch episodes 1, 17, and 18 of Astro Boy (2003), which cover Astro’s origin, as well as the iconic “World’s Greatest Robot” arc. These episodes will provide us with the necessary context for Pluto (2023), an adaptation of the manga of the same name by Naoki Urasawa (otherwise best-known for Monster), which is itself a dark reimagining of the aforementioned Astro Boy arc. It has received rave reviews from all corners, so we will watch parts 3 and 4 (of 8) tonight.
We’ll start at 7PM EST on Hextube, right here: https://live.hexbear.net/c/movies
