As someone in two types of therapy right now, one for gaining distress and crisis "skills", one for unpacking all the mental/personal/social/developmental roadblocks, it does sometime feel like I'm working on just clearing up my moods and disruptive patterns to accommodate capital and be a better * contributor*, while also acknowledging the reality of mental illness and therapies varying but generally positive impact on what exists independently of capitalism. While at the same time capitalism itself can and does engender and accelerate mental illness in inherently and deliberately dehumanizing conditions
Even when I try to comfort people who are having a rough time at work, I understand that I am making it easier for their bosses to exploit them. I always mix in some advice to organize or radicalize their workplaces, but this elicits a lot of resistance at least with petite bourgeois types.
