"My boss yelled at me" -> "My boss is my enemy and I will cheer at their demise." -> No Depression
Could you imagine this stormtrooper showing up to your home to talk to you when you're feeling suicidal.
CBT and mental healthcare is good. Hating / stigmatizing therapy is the same energy as being an anti-vaxer.
Agreed. And I can see how this meme makes those things look bad. But can’t you also see the possibility of the state replacing police with “mental health care workers” who are actually just more police?
Edit: I can delete this if people think it’s insensitive.
I guess. There's just a weird part of the left that thinks mental healthcare is bad for some reason. mostly responding to the meme inside of the meme lol
I believe there's a distinction between "mental healthcare is bad" and a proposition that since healthcare in general exists within a capitalist framework, it will inevitably bend towards capitalist ends. The logic of a healthy population is expressed through a well-adjusted person's ability to generate profit.
not trying to drag you comrade. shitposts gonna be shitposts :rat-salute: lol

Medical professionals are still people and a lot of them suck.
Imagine Elon Musk but he's got an MD. Widely respected and emulated, heavily popularized for doing a thing that combines self-promotion and generating lots of money, and a raging narcissist who has zero tolerance for his staff or clientele. Guys like this exist in the medical profession and they're a fucking bane of the industry.
After watching how we build infrastructure and how we handled the pandemic, I can hardly blame you.
Any word on whether we managed to fix all those lead pipes in Flint, yet? Wonder if that's impacting our mental health? Oh well, time for another dose of Lithium.

Yeah the repairs were finished a couple years back, for the record.
My experience with therapists has been pretty negative. Mental health is good and necessary, but my personal time spent with therapists hasn't produced anything positive. My last one was almost singularly focused on my job, even telling me I should try getting to work on time more often, since that would have a positive impact on my thoughts. She would not accept that my hatred of my workplace came from any sort of wider hatred of private business apparatuses in general, but rather, tried to get me to change how I thought about them. I quote "Try to imagine your boss is doing a service for you by letting you work there." Yeah, no. She also never seemed to understand that I hate how little time I have to do anything outside of work. She suggested a few times that having just enough time to get home, eat, bathe, sleep, then start again was a perfectly fine life to have.
I feel at this point my brain is too scrambled to do anything about becoming a well-adjusted individual unless I get something intensive. My last therapist did suggest medication for anxiety, but I've been on it for six months without any real progress, unless who I am now is supposed to be the progress. I got diagnosed with anxiety by a neurologist, which might be the problem? I don't know. I hate interacting with the medical system in general. Hate filling out forms. Hate all this
folks, we gotta get more antipsychiatry memes into /c/mentalhealth
Yeah when people get angry they yell and you need to be able to deal with angry people
Shouldn't they be able to deal with their own emotions and... not yell?
Acting as someone else's punching bag is not a sign of mental wellness, it's a sign of ego death. Telling your boss to stop screaming and act like a fucking adult is the healthy thing to do.
Yes not yelling at people is just as an important skill. Being able to deescalate a situation is the useful skill here
I get what's ridiculous about this image and the concept of cop-therapists, but can we please not humor the idea that CBT is inherently oppressive?
I don’t have a problem with CBT. The problem is therapists who think that psychological problems have no relationship to the material world. Freud once said something like: the neurotic attempts to change himself without changing the world. CBT by itself is not enough. Honestly in this day and age if you feel okay, that in itself is a kind of insanity.
I got the joke. Kente cloth isn't bad just because Pelosi and co. kneeled with them on.
Cock and Ball Torture is definitely not inherently oppressive if its consensual
As someone in two types of therapy right now, one for gaining distress and crisis "skills", one for unpacking all the mental/personal/social/developmental roadblocks, it does sometime feel like I'm working on just clearing up my moods and disruptive patterns to accommodate capital and be a better * contributor*, while also acknowledging the reality of mental illness and therapies varying but generally positive impact on what exists independently of capitalism. While at the same time capitalism itself can and does engender and accelerate mental illness in inherently and deliberately dehumanizing conditions
A lil Foucault, a lil early Marx. I I get it
Even when I try to comfort people who are having a rough time at work, I understand that I am making it easier for their bosses to exploit them. I always mix in some advice to organize or radicalize their workplaces, but this elicits a lot of resistance at least with petite bourgeois types.
I want to be able to bare continuing to exist though, which means learning how to cope with living under capitalism to some degree. That's what CBT does for me. Like if the revolution isnt coming by the end of the weekend I need something!
It would be great if it were legal and safe. But it's not. Bad actors will cut your K with fentanyl, and then you'll die. This isn't scaremonger shit, either—one of my brothers was killed by bastards doing that. This is not a bit. It happened for real.
And this isn't just limited to K. If you use any drugs besides weed/shrooms, I highly recommend getting a test kit and testing before ingesting. Not just because of the risk of fentanyl, but because frequently the drug won't be what you think it is or will be cut with something else that could be dangerous. Doing drugs safely begins with knowing what you're taking. You don't want to find out only after you've taken it that your molly is meth or your acid is some random research chem that might kill you.
I didn't give an order I gave a warning about a product. Ketamine is buyer beware
Is he necessarily bad? If you dressed me up like that and faced me toward the sun, I'd look like a bastard too. I imagine he probably is, but maybe not too, you know? He could be really soft spoken and willing to help. I could imagine a scenario where a therapist needed body armor. Probably not, it is America and their police force after all, so a slim chance. But maaaaaaybe?
He could be really soft spoken and willing to help
as pigs with Blue Lives Matter flags tend to be :disgost:
All cops are bastards, even the ones who are soft spoken and willing to help.
