The number of people that read misinformation is always much greater than the number who read the corrected information. Look at all the cases of the fake articles about China and DPRK. They make it to the front page of reddit with 60,000 upvotes. Then when and if the articles ever get corrected, only a few hundred people see it.

The majority of people that upvoted the post won't know or care that it was fake. The moderators already swept it under the rug. The people who do figure out that it was fake will make up a narrative to save face. That is what reactionaries do. They don't have any sort of theory or analysis to rationalize actions or mistakes. These people are ignorant. They believe things because they want the things to be true. They make up lies to uphold the status quo. That's it.

Spreading misinformation would be an effective attack against leftist communities because leftist communities require organizing and seek to enact change. Spreading misinformation in a reactionary community is not an effective tactic because reactionaries benefit from disorganization. Reactionaries want to prevent change of the status quo. Reactionaries would work all day and night just to make sure that nothing changes.
