There is an interesting challenge with academic unions, which is that a ton of funding in academia, and the basis for entire programs, is military funding. They are an acute point of contradiction, with some members developing and supporting the technology that's used to bomb and displace other members that organize against imperialism.

If you are near such a university, it will be very instructive to push a line against military contractors and/or military grants. A campaign targeting just one company or granter to begin with will be very interesting, to say the least.
