So there's an alleged astroturfing initiative run by the PRC which supposedly pays posters 50 cents RMB (hence the name wumao (五毛)) per post they make in support of China, and it obviously got blown way out of proportion by western media and now people on :reddit-logo: think that anyone who disagrees with them and doesn't think China is some comic book villain country is a bot or paid shill. Also Chinese propaganda is overwhelmingly targeted internally, China's external propaganda apparatus is like a baby compared to the angloids', so I doubt you'll actually see wumaos on western sites, and if they do exist it's probably not in very large numbers.
