I tried, Chinese immigration is overtly hostile if you are going for long term immigration. I bring this up every now and then, but over the past 10 years China has issued 20,000 permanent residency visas which is required if you want citizenship. Now just think about all the people who are on a spouse visa who would ordinarily convert but just haven’t. It’s easy to get into on a non-permanent basis, but that becomes less feasible when thinking about life post working.
