This is so fukcing stupid i cant handle it. Fuck. Cathedrals are still beautiful and awe-inspiring hundreds of years after they were built. This orb is going to look like absolute shit the second it loses power or some of its screens break or something, so, like, 50 years from now it'll be giant e-waste sitting in a dead city. I hate techbros i hate techbros i hate techbros

can a cathedral turn into a giant fucking eyeball? No? Then I don't care about it

      , 50 years from now

I admire your optimism that it'll last that long

Give it like 5 years and you'll start seeing multiple led panels needing replaced but they can't afford to do that because they still havent made a profit.

L take. every sinofuturism video features the big skyscrapers acting as screens. as has been pointed out here before if this thing were built in China we'd all be praising the shit out of it.

edit: vegas in general is shit though. although the desert & surrounding mountains have a nice austere natural beauty to them.

No. I wouldn't be. I think those giant skyscraper screens are cringe as shit. Simply make prettier buildings that don't cause massive light pollution. I think a neat old stone church is extremely a lot cooler than any fancy skyscraper covered in screens

          Simply make prettier buildings

Modern engineering and building safety standard make this prohibitively expensive if not borderline impossible.

what about engineering and safety could possibly demand new buildings be flashy glass skyscrapers?

              Modern HVAC prefers low ceilings

Fire codes require putting way more staircases in everything and making hallways wider

Masonry is increasingly expensive and fewer and fewer people can do high skill masonry work

Also Cathedrals took generations to build, society doesn't have the patience for that crap anymore

There's other reasons I can't think of off the top of my head

i doubt they were expecting cathedral-level but more masonry and stylish facades are definitely possible in conventionally proportioned & constructed buildings without breaking those rules (except acquiring masons, but no reason we shouldn't have people employed in beautification trades)

I think skyscrapers are overrated, but at least they have functional interiors. What is inside of the orb?

I would not be surprised if the orb caved in at basically any moment
