I actually don’t think this is bad? It’s a great way to explain to Americans who know nothing about the politics of Israel just how awful their ruling government is.

Yes Trump is living rent free in most kind heads. Might as well use that to help them understand shit.

Seriously, sometimes i feel as if Americans on this site have inverse Trump derangement syndrome.

They also haven’t had years and years of manufactured consent around “trumpism” (yet) the way we’ve had with fascism and apartheid that has made those terms dissolve into the background radiation of just shit that’s going on fir most dumbass Americans.

I do think it’s fair to think as leftists we’d politically literate enough to see why it’s stupid but also recognize that yeah liberals are dinguses and it might be a way for then to get to the truth even if they get there in a roundabout moronic ass way. I think both can be a little true

Yes, it's usually reflexive and politically myopic. That doesn't mean it never has to apply. It is absolutely fitting to talk about Trump in a take about the latest settler-colonialist land grab in Jerusalem, because doing that land grab in Sheikh Jarrah specifically is perfectly in line with Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital - this move serves to drive a wedge between the al-Quds mosque and the Palestinian parts of the town. It is aimed at further de-palestinizing Jerusalem. I don't see a problem with mentioning Trump here when the latest atrocities are things he helped pave the way for when he went even beyond the usual US support for Israel.

To folks thinking this is a useful comparison: Even if it works to get people to think "Israel is doing a bad", the problem with this framing is that it sounds like if you got rid of the 'Trump figure' (Netanyahu in this case) that the problem would be solved.

If you're gonna make the comparison to Trump, you need to specifically point out the issue predates Trump, e.g. "Trump is bad, but the deportation issue has been ongoing. Obama deported more people living in the US than Donald Trump, this is a feature of the US system not an asshat president"

We need to help people to recognize this is an ongoing systemic problem, not simply that it's bad.

The clip itself is much better than the tweet. In 10 minutes, they mention Trump once lol

I mean, trumpism is a good word for the neofascism fueled by social media of the 21st century. The fact that Netanyahu was doing that since way earlier doesn't invalidate it. The same way that people are more likely to know what a nazi is than a fascist. Branding, branding, branding

I get your point, still, MSNBC telling the libs that rabid zionism is what causes the illnes is a beam of light.
