It's tagged "drama" and treated as simple personal beef between the objects of the gamers' exaltation or loathing because their video game-warped peanut brains quite literally cannot conceive that anyone anywhere might have problems more important than not getting unanimous societal approval to jerk it to Dead or Alive: Extreme Beach Volleyball.
They do seem kinda ripe for a unionization effort. Hopefully this leads to that.

In seriousness, good on them for calling corporate out on their bullshit. It helps illustrate for the libs that this shit happens everywherethe writers and editors hold all the cards though. ign doesn't provide a service beyond editorials and reviews.
IGN has built up a pretty great team on and off camera the last 5 years. It's already stupid that they did this in the first place, if they throw away that talent, what a waste.
