Have you ever met someone who emphasized a word (Nippy, Kite, Cook, Artist, for example) to hint at a slur, but be just outside reproach? That is them just flexing their position of privilege against someone. I'm not suggesting we drop all words that sound like slurs, as context and individual usually show that isn't what they are intended for. However, in this case, the word does not really sound different enough or find enough usage to justify it.
