parents are weird. parenting is weird (unavoidably so. you produced a human being with your body. it's lovecraftian.) also most people get into it without really understanding what they're getting into.

I don't know if this is already a struggle sesh here, but the atomic family is an absolutely awful way of raising children. at no point in human history has so much of a child's early development been placed in the hands of just the two people who contributed their DNA.
