    Yeah not really any different from other fictitious works in that sense although with anime specifically, there's a lot of content related to the high school experience in particular which I suspect is appealing to many at least in part because of how shit being a working adult is.

    Anime/manga also has a subgenre of "iyashikei" or "healing-type" works which again is appealing to people because of how stressful real life is.

        While I'm sure there's still a decent amount of those types, I suspect with anime having become a lot more mainstream now especially among younger generations, I'm doubtful the stereotype holds for the majority of the fanbase.
