not really. The most visible type is by far shounen/dbz fans that spend their time on "who would win" arguments. In certain social media, like twitter, I would argue that the fascist pedo anime type is less visible than even leftist sailor moon pfp anime fan or jojo/eva memes , unless you are actively in the more fascist side of twitter to begin with

Have you ever been to any anime meme communities?

Every other post is transphobia, reactionary, pedophillic, or literally referencing snuff or loli porn on nhentai. Anime meme communities are disastrously reactionary.

Do people not know this? Are the :lmayo: showing their entire ass online again?

Tbh that bait thread about anime that is locked now was started by someone that has had numerous posts and comments removed for weird sexualisation stuff. They did the exact same post about anime 3 months ago. Don't take the bait folks.

I have to say, my enthusiasm for many, many anime has been muted since becoming a commie. Japan is a very conservative country and it's reflected in their artistic output. At the same time, I enjoy the aesthetic, and these days I simply go with whatever is good, regardless of origin or medium, which I have found a far more successful way to find good shit then sticking with certain types of media.

Many big anime creators especially older ones were leftists or just straight up marxists for a big part of their lives cause there is a whole generation of anime creators who were present and very influenced by the full of class struggle 60s in Japan and especially the student movement. In ways the anime industry has more prominent commie or revolutionary seeds in it than mainstream western tv and movies. Yeah the majority still sucks, most for social messaging ways but in general i dont find anime more hard to enjoy or get into compared to other mediums. Especially when there is an artistic genealogy of pretty based and left-ish creators and shows

Pretty spot on I'd say. I probably should have clarified my leftward turn ruined much capitalist movies and tv in general, not just japanese

Granted I didn’t see it much in that thread. Other threads both here and in the old sub it was a sentiment I saw a lot.

I feel like anime fans are prime targets for radicalization given that:

    1. they often consume it to escape from reality
    2. they're well aware of how shit the working conditions are for animators in Japan
    3. they can recognize that a lot of the Western stuff being put out is shit
    4. many weebs are ethnic minorities (in addition to black folks, I get the impression there are a lot asian weebs as well)
    5. I think a lot of fans would like to learn to create their own art/animation for a living but are unable to do so cause of capitalism

Gamers also tick all of those boxes but we lost them to the right because the Left was more interested in dunking on them than trying to win them over.

Same thing is probably going to happen / already happened to the anime fans.

Is this any different from people who are fans of cartoons, movies, tv shows, video games? Seems like just a stereotype...

Yeah not really any different from other fictitious works in that sense although with anime specifically, there's a lot of content related to the high school experience in particular which I suspect is appealing to many at least in part because of how shit being a working adult is.

Anime/manga also has a subgenre of "iyashikei" or "healing-type" works which again is appealing to people because of how stressful real life is.

You would assume that for a stereotypical anime high school wasn't exactly the best time in their life...

While I'm sure there's still a decent amount of those types, I suspect with anime having become a lot more mainstream now especially among younger generations, I'm doubtful the stereotype holds for the majority of the fanbase.

it shouldnt be a struggle session but this thread is going to be a reitiration of the last one and derivate from the first point. if i post after the cats debate that cat should have their claws cut that post is going to derive int outdoor cats struggle session once again. but yeah i agree you that anime isnt mono mayo. i know tons of people that get into anime not for big boobas but maybe for the different expression of gender there. :meow-tankie:

Even then it was just segregated. Black weebs hung around the FGC and Yugioh and white people avoided them because they were “to aggressive.”
