It does get used as a racial epithet generally towards Miami Cubans, most of whom are now the children and grand-children of reactionaries and not chuds themselves. Use in the US, esp. by whites, is still fraught.

Name five prominent communists who were not petty bourgeois class traitors. Parents' politics and class position strongly influences but does not determine childrens' politics. Again, in the context of Miami it is not revolutionaries condemning reactionaries but shitheads being racist towards (whiter, more affluent) latino people. If you have a problem using an ounce of critical thinking skills there you need to touch grass and consider your principles.

Most prominent non conservative Cuban American groups I’ve seen are liberal at best. I guess it’s a good thing that sometimes they organize aid for Cubans but I’m not confident in their choices for endorsement because no one is going to be passing laws to end embargoes any time soon.

White Floridians know Spanish enough to insult their own critical voters? I guess I shouldn’t be surprised if they assume anyone who speaks Spanish is a Mexican, but I also assumed they’d just call them racial slurs in English
