No. It is not safe to say so. It is never safe to say so. Imagine if people, once confronted with bad fortune and famine, simply lied down and gave up. Imagine if in the unending horrors of the holocaust, the brave people of Russia simply gave up, laid down their arms, and let themselves be raped and slaughtered, to be hung from meat hooks. To serve as the mere chattel of the conquerors, treated as no more valuable than cattle. Imagine if in the confrontation with Japan, the people of China, faced with famine and ruin, faced with torn-apart families, plague, and destitution, faced with all odds against them, faced against an enemy who hasn't been vanquished ever, simply laid down and let themselves become the eternal slaves of foreign powers, to let themselves be the lab rats, the guinea pigs of depraved "science". To let their people be abducted en masse to serve as the sex slaves of the conquerors. No. It did not happen. Against all odds, it did not happen. Against all odds, they persevered, they fought back, and they won. To assume defeat and lay down your arms is to invite it, to make inevitable what isn't inevitable.
