The AFP apparently obtained exclusive access to a draft of the next 4000-pages IPCC report (the 6th, scheduled to be released in February 2022 - the last one, the 5th, dates back from 2014). The draft does not, sadly, appear to be publicly available, only articles they wrote about it.

As expected, this time around and based on updated models the report is much more alarming, saying among other things that the effects of climate change will be "cataclysmic", that strong effects will be felt "long before" 2050, that on current trends we're headed for a warming of 3C at best, that Humanity should "face up to this reality and prepare for the onslaught", and they also warn of feedback loops, saying they have identified "a dozen temperature trip wires".

    It also includes this quote:

"Life on Earth can recover from a drastic climate shift by evolving into new species and creating new ecosystems," it says. "Humans cannot."

A few alternatives articles covering the same:

Finally, here is the official IPCC reaction to the draft being leaked to the AFP; where they basically say they that draft reports are confidential and that they "do not comment on the content of draft reports while work is still ongoing".

Careful: maybe my wording was confusing, we're headed for 3C minimum given current trends but not necessarily before 2050. That's not what the report says. Eventually we will hit 3C (I'd guesstimate largely before 2100 but probably not before 2050), that's all. The report simply says there will be painful, tangible, large consequences long before 2050 (such as ~2.5 more billions people at climate risks, and hundreds of millions of people at direct risk of flooding, by then, among other things).

This is hardly better though. Yet don't off yourself :ancom-heart: find what enjoyment you can from life in the meantime.
