Our new health secretary is also a giant Ayn Rand fanboy who says we're just gonna reopen completely in July forever because we have to "learn to live with covid" so I look forward to a vaccine resistant super strain ravaging the country by Winter (I might be doomering a bit but it's still not gonna be good).
Yeah, exactly, by not just doing what China/Vietnam/Cuba have done and taking pro human, anti magic money line action to deal with covid as much as possible we're just putting strain on the already besieged NHS and increasing the risk of nastier variants coming about.
Yeah not only that, but they've been cramming people from all over the continent into stadiums for the Euros. Glasgow (4 matches at ~12k per match in a 51k stadium) and London (8 matches ~22.5k in a 87k stadium with them projecting 60k for the semi-final and final).
Also the working class needs their free childcare
I mean, they do. But this seems like a shit way to deliver it.
We really are learning things together as a society thru all of this
I saw someone mention that the public stadium games were a test to see if things were safe. It's just science bro! Watch as we collect data on the poor and deprived to see if it's safe enough for rich people to have catering in their skybox.
Mine recently announced that they're doing it company wide next month, including for people who have medical accommodation to work from home due to compromised immune systems. The employees in question are mostly call center employees that work within a yard of 3+ other people.
Just about a 40% vaccination rate here, loving the reminder that our lives are worthless.
Ugh this is really sad, another round of COVID for us, one that-again-would have been completely preventable. Also, more personally Spending a 4th stretch of time indoors won’t do me much good. sorry to be bit of a downer
