    i posted this a little while ago, but i was (coincidentally) in cuba on may day a few years ago, and the turnout for the early morning parade from this really small little city we were in (40000 people) was enormous, no cops or anything to be seen, just a whole tonne of people out with their signs and floats and flags and pictures of Fidel and Che etc. pretty clearly all there because they wanted to be, in support of the revolution. the support runs pretty deep
