Sorry to hear that comrade. Our substance abuse resources are highly draconian and frankly ineffectual. I don't encourage you to stop using what resources you have, but if they prove not to work for you, it is decidedly not your fault.
California sober is not an uncommon practice and if you live in an area that's legal (or even decriminalized) you may find a similar program that works for you, but having to change counselors does seem daunting (at least to me, an outsider).
It's never constructive to have to hide your use of mind-altering substances. Even when your use might be detrimental, it is always better to able to be honest with other people about it. That so-called recovery groups maintain that even something basically without potential for abuse like psilocybin is forbidden is just not helpful. We don't have an addict group here and that's sort of because we're not equipped for it, but if you ever want to just shoot your experiences to someone, I'll listen. No guarantees of any kind of advice.
I will say, with acknowledgement that it's not a great thing to hear, that getting things under wraps is not always a great reason to go back to using. I've experienced it enough times with alcohol to know that it takes a large support and ensurance structure to make sure that even using a substance to maintain self-medication doesn't slip back into over-compensating, destructive behavior.
I've had the same bullshit over alcohol abuse. it feels like you're being called a child who can't be trusted with the grown ups stuff and so has to sit out because you're a liability to yourself. for some people, that might be true, but I'm an adult and should be allowed to make that choice for myself, and have that be supported so I can find the way I want to live and have that life work for me, not the puritanical demands of others
