There was a V-22 Osprey pilot redditor. His username was UR_WRONG_ABOUT_V22 and he was always on the lookout for anyone cracking a joke about the V-22 being a death machine. With an extremely condescending attitude, he defended his beloved tiltrotor on dozens of subreddits through an array of aircraft safety statistics and insults.
Anyway UR_WRONG_ABOUT_V22 was the pilot of the V-22 which crashed last week, he was killed by what he once called "the safest rotorcraft the USMC has ever procured." This has all been confirmed by his wife, who has now taken over the account and continues to defend the Osprey's honour.
Just checked out that account, I don't know if it's funny or sad that his wife immediately jumped in to continue defending the same machine that killed her husband with just as much zeal.
I do really appreciate the posters that still replied to her with this-
Yeah he argued about how safe they were. I argued with him a few times about how dangerous they are. Sorry for your loss but there is no reason to be mad at me for saying the Osprey is dangerous.
I want this to be true, and there's no way to verify it's false! It's now canon
It'd be an incredible bit for someone to spend five years defending the honour of a notoriously dangerous aircraft they pretend to pilot, all for the epic ironic payoff when it supposedly kills them.
It's like if Groverhaus somehow suffered explosive decompression but his groverwife survived and carried on defending his honor
This has all been confirmed by his wife, who has now taken over the account and continues to defend the Osprey's honour.
Somebody decided to buy the max SGLI policy when hubby was out in their wirrly-bird.
I thought the V-22 was really cool when I was 10 because "what if a helicopter turned into an airplane" is a funny idea for a 10 year old. Now I think it's really cool because "what if an aircraft was over designed and it's really only good for " is a really funny idea.
Helicopter and small plane in one? Its breaking 2 rules at once no wonder it keeps crashing
Disappointed they didn't insist on making it single rotor just to break as many rules as possible
i made one like that in kerbal space program, it was very fun and nobody dies when you reload a save
One of the funniest episodes to date because it just keeps getting dumber and dumber.
When I was a little kid, my dad built a model of the Osprey and I thought it looked really cool. This was probably about 30 years ago, so the Osprey wasn't even in use yet, or at the very least the model had originally been released before it was in use. They really did design this machine to sell toys.
Lego also tried releasing a model of a ”rescue” Osprey, but cancelled it because it went against their principle to make sets based on modern military vehicles, since there are no civilian Ospreys IRL. I kind of wonder if that was a ploy to stealthily get into making military toys. ”No, this is a rescue F-35.”
Volcelcopter more like. No one flying on that thing is getting laid. No sir
It doesn't crash much more frequently that a lot of aircraft the US operates, and it's not the least safe US aircraft either. It just carries a lot of people so when crashes do occur, lots of people die.
Proposing "Osprey Rides" as a direct counter to the edgy ancap "helicopter ride" meme.a
Barbara pit already serves that role and does so better, IMO (because it was deliberate).
(to the tune of "Money for Nothing")
"'Copter fuel's expensive, but the pits are free."
Do you think they pick their best pilots to drive these things, because they're the only ones who can handle it? Or do they pick their worst pilots because these things are death traps and they're gonna kill you regardless of your skill?
I mean, would it really matter? The Osprey isn't a very safe aircraft, but the US operates a lot of not-very-safe aircraft. Most Osprey fatal crashes weren't due to pilot error, so having the best pilot in the world wouldn't have made a single difference.
Woodie Guthrie with the guitar replaced with an Ossprey... dialetics in action I tell you waht.
