What a wacky development. Heard that the(even more), far right elements are not happy about this, but I don't know how true that is. I assume they are doing this because they see the way the wind is blowing, or they might be trying to establish friendlier relationships with Russia indirectly. Maybe both, maybe neither I honestly don't know. Would be interested to hear the takes of those who are more well read about the situation.

This is Ukraine playing multiple sides. With the EU and US gearing up for some form of rapprochement with Russia, Ukraine is saying 'if you leave us hanging, we will go to China'.
Basically how any nation that finds themselves not sollidly in one of the multiple geopolitical camps would act.
