Hello users of Hexbear!

Some of you may have noticed some new communities created, and one ... deleted.

I now come to you asking if anyone motivated enough would care to submit an application to become a moderator. You may do so through hexbear DM or through matrix DM (instructions at the end of the post)

We are specifically looking for new moderators in these communities (dunk tank, askchapo, memes, chat, politics, electoralism, doomer, covid, fashion, europe, travel, islam) but accepting applications for any community that you are interested in.

Also, if you would like to create a community please comment what the community is in this post or make a post in https://hexbear.net/c/commrequest

You may also use this post to comment any comments, questions, concerns, criticisms, or compliments related to hexbear, its moderation, or the community.

Thank you everyone for another year of great posting!!!

Element information

Element is a messaging app that lets you talk to people over the Matrix protocol.

To get started, check out this link, where you can choose to either download Element for your platform or, if on a computer, open it in a browser ("Launch Element Web").

The instructions that follow are for the desktop application and the web application, but the process is similar on all apps:

  • Press "Create Account"
  • We host our own Matrix server, so if you want you can change matrix.org to chapo.chat. This is completely optional; users who sign up with a matrix.org username can still talk to people with chapo.chat username. (Note: It is chapo.chat, not hexbear.net. Also, registrations aren't always open on chapo.chat; if they're not, just create an account on matrix.org)
  • Fill in a username and password
  • Hit register, and you're done!

Hello this is my application. I have never moderated anything in my life, but i excess often.
I am incredibly biased and my rulings will be completely arbitrary, largely dependent on wether or not I agree with the user in question.
My hours will be irregular. They will vary. I will never be around when you need me.
For transparency: Langley currently pays me 10$ an hour, Xi pays me 8.75$ and Putin sends me a sexy picture of his feet every friday.
Please make me a siteadmin and hand me the keys to the website. I promise I will take good care of it, since I am 100% sane, 0% deranged.

Also comm request: Conspiracy. I would like to be able to discuss epsteingelion and national-mourning-period without hearing how it's actually the jews that did it.
People that wrinkle their nose at this stuff: Chicago PD blacksites were a conspiracy theory. Countless coups were conspiracy theories. "The Third Degree" was a conspiracy. Torture of US prisoners of war was a conspiracy. The murder of Ferguson Riot leaders is still a conspiracy. Epstein is a conspiracy. The business plot is a conspiracy. zenz making up claims was a conspiracy at one point. Same goes for radio free asia and the like. All of these things were scoffed at as conspiracies, until people managed to gather and detail the evidence that shows it to be true. That gathering effort is rarely done by an individual.
Having a comm that encourages the collection and dissipation of information about this kind of stuff is good actually.

If, for some inane reason, the word conspiracy scares you, then the comm can be named c/pepe-silvia, though that will be very confusing.

I would also like this. The trueanon sub's days are numbered and I'd just rather be able to get all that information here.

Yeah outside of a couple small subs the trueanon sub is the only reason I go on reddit-logo anymore.

It would also be cool to have a similar minded community that doesn't have every second user spamming the r word and other edgy shit

That's another good point, maybe I never noticed it before but after reopening the sub's overall quality has felt much worse.

I need more 9/11 posting. I know there's a user here that has made some incredible writeups.
They also shared one about Jim Jones being killed by the CIA. I wish I'd bookmarked it.

I don't want hollow earth, flat earth, hollow moon, chemtrails and faked moonlanding discussions (except on fridays, which are for being silly).

i’d like to put forth myself as a candidate. i am longtime user who is terrible at posting, and who has never wavered in her dedication to making this community worse. if granted moderator powers, i would immediately use them to abuse my fellow users and DM minors sketchy stuff. furthermore, i’ll hurt myself if you don’t make me a mod.

    thank you for your consideration.

I hereby declare an official request for a trueanon community on Hexbear. There’s one on lemmygrad already but it has three subscribers and I became #2 and #3 after I figured out how to join a new instance.

I know chapo essentially serves the same purpose, but a TA comm could be used to gather the alarmingly more regular headlines about new “Jeffery Epstein(s) of ____” and our Pepe Silvia-style effort posts.

Plus I locked down the username and need to grow the investment

I would only consider becoming a mod if the mod team is understaffed, and there is a high demand for mods. I do think it would be cool if we had more POC on the mod team, speaking as a black guy from Europe

I don't think they'd be asking like this if they weren't a bit understaffed, at least on certain comms. If you're online at all frequently anyhow, why not mod a comm or two? Mainly you just have to respond to reports afaik, so it'll show up in your inbox and you just remove the comment, ban, leave it in place, depending on if it's actually against the rules, and then clear the report as resolved

@CARCOSA@hexbear.net just to clarify, there isn't a requirement to be on call or cover certain hours/shifts right?

Afaik there's no hard requirement, if you're on the site regularly (like, most days, or even close to it, not all hours of the day) you are probably fine, people's reports show up as notifications same as replies/DMs

I'll be the Canada comm tyrant. I'm not gonna submit an application, though. That would be engaging with bourgeois electoralism or something.
