As Beijing grapples with a worsening outbreak of the Delta variant, an outlandish conspiracy theory linking the origin of the coronavirus to the United States military has gained renewed traction in China.
Of course, but I'm imagining the hope is to exploit short-term weaknesses, like what we see happening in Cuba. At this point it seems like corona creates no immediate cost for the ruling class, and they're doomed to failure in the long-term anyway. More likely, I'm actually attributing too much long-term thinking to the capitalists. They probably don't want to pay for a pandemic response now and have no long-term strategy at all.
I also feel like it's the state's job to do the long-term planning, because individual capitalists can't do that kind of cooperating while also competing with each other. This just adds to the plausibility of the US creating covid, which isn't a leap I'm ready to take yet. I feel like there's a lot to think over, and none of it is good.
