socialism is not gonna come to Afghanistan any time soon even if the Taliban are defeated tbqh, and the US knows that. a lot of people did support the socialist government.... 40 years ago, but the Soviet intervention really did a lot to paint 'socialism' as foreign invasion and an attack on Islam, which is why the Muhajadeen won in the first place; sure US weapons and funding did a lot, but they also had popular support. the leaving guns behind shit I think is more the collapse of the empire and just being fucking incompetent. the US pulled out of a base in the dead of night not long ago, they just ran away. the empire is fucking useless but wants to make every move seem like 4D CIA chess, when the fucking idiots didn't even see the Taliban turning on the US empire

the Taliban and China actually have a pretty good relationship. but there are several Turkestan Islamic Jihadist groups in Afghanistan that work with the Taliban, and the Taliban are not big geo politics guys, they are true ideologues who do actually buy their own bullshit. the belt and road stuff they're fine with, but they don't exactly like the PRC either

building actual infrastructure and gasp impacting the material conditions does a LOT more yes. but, like the idea that the outside powers will come in and save them from their savagery is kind of a colonial mentality if you ask me tbqh. I do think things will improve, for one there's not some asshole bombing every wedding anymore. the occupation did a lot to bolster the Taliban because are you gonna fight the guys fighting off the invaders who bomb your schools? send out their sicko death squads into your village? no, most people want the US gone more than the Taliban, but once the US is gone? where does the Taliban get legitimacy from then?
