Wow, it's almost as if the game being made by Americans accidentally highlighted the imperialist and oppressive elements of samurai culture without a complete lack of criticism towards it. Even Kurosawa would be disappointed (typically featured the peasants and poor samurai as the primary heroes/survivors in his jidaigeki), Kobayashi is just laughing from the grave)

uh games are political and its not masturbatory wtf
they are made by capitalist companies in a capitalist society to make money for capitalist shareholders
circlejerking about how lib/status quo/fash they are is definitely masturbatory
I think it's more about addressing the inherent political biases in videogames (and how, like you said, because they are made by capitalist companies, they tend towards the right wing, and also tend towards authoritarian due to the prevalence of military-based games) rather than bemoaning games for not taking overt political stances.
