Idk, the amount of disingenuous handwringing from libs and lib media trying to manufacture consent or spin it like the US stopping its imperialist war is a bad thing kind of puts a sour taste in my mouth with regards to the whole argument. Is life going to be that much worse than it was when you spent 20 years at risk of getting drone striked? I'm certainly not in any position to say, but neither are you, and I don't think we're going to get any unbiased perspectives (ie not state department propaganda) — at least not for a long time.

Especially given my lack of position to do anything useful besides criticize the United States to other muricans, I'm pretty unwilling to entertain the argument due to the sheer quantity of bad faith whataboutism that has accompanied it

    Tl;dr :cia:

You're still not in the position to say if rights getting rolled back is worse than the constant threats from living in the midst of the us's twenty-year long imperial war. I am not saying it's a good thing, ideally neither the Taliban nor the us puppet government would be in charge, but I'm not gonna sit here and act like I can honestly speak for women experiencing either and say which is worse.

Like, yeah, it sucks. But that doesn't mean that there's not some kind of surreal humor about shit like the reporter/cia asset who materially contributed to the taliban's swift takeover also very swiftly switching from western clothes into a hijab, since that's a material change she personally helped to sow, or that there's no surreal humor in the taliban tweeting sexist r*ddit-tier memes or riding the bumper cars or whatever.

Literally that tweet about "me, younger (naive): I hope good things happen / me, older (wise): I hope the bad things that will happen are at least funny"

Like I guess I'm glad for you that some how your brain is still not broken enough by hellworld that you're able to pearl clutch about people watching this particular dumpster fire, but I'm not sure there's anything else I can do but laugh in horror

I mean is it really an "ayyy lmao" response to read an onion tier headline and have a kneejerk :what-the-hell: response to it? Like the headlines themselves are the punchline, idk what you've seen but I've been lurking extra hard the last week or so and I haven't seen any Reddit-tier "ha ha, fuck women" or other sexist humor.

Just lots of marveling at the absurdity of the various situations and dunking on the libs that are suddenly acting like they care about the women they've been drone striking for two decades, the same way globe-emojis get dunked on for their bullshit "why do you hate the global poor" line.

But yeah probably a good idea to stop finger-wagging, I don't know how anyone has the energy to scold people who are clearly not acting in bad faith for having a pretty reasonable reaction to "holy shit the taliban took over the whole country in 2 days and they're riding bumper cars and tweeting sexist memes". Like how the fuck else are you supposed to respond to that? Plus like half the comments on any given thread about the taliban are "you do not, under any circumstances, gotta hand it to them"
