Sibling's got an eye exam for new glasses and wondering if y'all can recommend me some place that offers glasses cheaply since they don't got insurance. I'd appreciate any help available comrades.

I've used Zenni, they're good for exactly what you want: very reasonably priced glasses that look nice and don't immediately fall apart.

        Some tips you might appreciate:

        • Comrades are mentioning pupillary distance. This is good to get, and you can do it carefully with a ruler rather than paying for it at the optometrist. PD is literally just measuring the distance between your pupils, in millimeters, doing a thousand yard stare. To be 100% accurate you actually want to measure separate distances from the center of the bridge of your nose to each pupil - or to mark the center of the bridge of your nose on the ruler when measuring and infer.

        • Zenni is so inexpensive that if you have the time to wait on shipping twice, you can order a backup pair of glasses first for literally $7+tax+shipping and they should also send a PD-measuring ruler at the same time, so you can remeasure just in case and order more expensive frames + lenses (you will probably want their high index lenses at minimum, which adds $20.

        • In my experience, the thin metal frames can be a little flimsier and easier to bend than you might expect. Not dramatically so, but just a heads up. Prescriptions change fast enough that this is probably not a problem.

I also get my glasses from Zenni. Yes, you give them the prescription information as part of the ordering process. I've been very happy with the clip-on shades they offer as well, though it takes a drop oof super glue to keep the rubber feet on the clips from escaping.

An important note when ordering glasses online: get your sibling to ask for pupillary distance measurements along with the prescription. They are needed when ordering glasses, and many optometrists will not by default provide these measurements as part of the prescription. If you can't get them from the optometrist you can help take the measurements yourself. I've had a roommate take mine and the glasses came out fine.

Yeah, I'm a repeat customer on Zenni. Glasses are slightly clearer than the expensive ones I got from the optometrist, and cheap enough that I can like... accessorize instead of them just being a part of my face for the next few years.

You can measure your own PD. Put a ruler or tape measure in front of your face, stare straight into a mirror, and take a picture.

I'm pretty sure I actually ended up doing a better job of it than the person up front at my optometrist.

Eyebuydirect is another online prescription eyeglass seller. Just enter the prescription and the distance between pupils. I imagine other sellers are the same. My glasses were about $30-$50 with UV protection and maybe anti-shatter polymer, but that was a few years ago.

Update so my sibling got their eye exam and got both the prescription and the pupil distance. Gonna try ordering them their glasses soon and maybe a back up pair like y'all suggested.
