Obviously doesn't DISPROVE your theory, but I think a couple of kids got "it" too - certainly capable of having drunk too much, but ever so slightly less likely.
I'd think that was probably projection by their parents. Besides, kids are often restless, have mood swings, distracted etc. Then add in that they probably live a pretty cloistered life in small ex-pat enclaves in foreign countries, without speaking the language, due to their parents' sensitive jobs.
I'd put money on too much drink in hot climates too.
