What should I expect? Is there anyone else here who went in for an exam as an adult? I'm 21 atm, male presenting, and I just.. I'm freaked out, honestly. I'm terrified if being a hypochondriac - that's one of my biggest fears.
I had my test for autism about half a year ago and I’m the same age. My assessment was just learning about who I was and what my likes and dislikes were. The person conducting the exam then called my mom and asked her questions about my childhood and my behavior growing up. About a week or two later I got my results and i found I was on the spectrum. It is kinda a relief and it helps fill in the blanks and answers a lot of questions you had revolving incidents in the past etc.
Again just answer each question as faithfully as you can, go in with confidence and really don’t stress about it. As long as you stay calm and answer each question as best as you can it won’t be that bad and the payoff is really worth it.
I hope your results help you come to terms with how hard life is and alleviates some stress
Ps you’re a great poster too very funny
Thank you. Your story does give me hope.
Also I only post so well because I legit just vomit whatever the first thought in my head onto the screen
Honestly I wouldn't have if it wasn't for my partner - they opened my eyes, so to speak
I already had a therapist for other issues. "Functioning in society" is already kinda shaky for me with those issues alone
I wouldn't worry too much about hypochondria, the testing/diagnosis is at least as likely to confirm what you've always sort of known about yourself but never had a way to talk about or deal with... It'll probably be a big relief more than anything imo
I've done some testing recently and a lot of it is just recalling terms and other tedious things
my ADHD diagnostic was literally a questionnaire that was like, "do you have trouble focusing, lol?" But this was a decade ago, so I dunno
I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 36. I had a conversation with my psychiatrist and had to fill out a questionnaire at home about attention issues I had as a child and attention issues I have now as an adult. It was nothing to be afraid of.
Don't have any experience, but good luck! I've been meaning to look into testing for like the past year but I havent gotten around to it cuz I'm mentally ill :shrug-outta-hecks:
